Gregory Crewdson Exhibtion

If you had mentioned Gregory Crewdson to me a few weeks ago, I would not have known who you were speaking about.  If you had shown me a piece of his work, I would have been able to tell you a tale.
This is how it would have gone.

Quiet a few years ago, Buzz and I stumbled upon a documentary on this amazing photographer.  He took photos that looked like they came out a Lynchian movie.  The documentary showed his process.  How he shut down streets, had cranes, SO many lights and part of me wants to believe that he actually had a snow machine.  Once the doco finished we both looked at each other and asked, who was that!!

A few weeks later whilst browsing bookstores in Prahran we found a book that had this guys photos in it.  We looked through it in amazement.  We looked at the price and couldn't afford it.  We decided that we'd see if Borders had it, and wondered off.  As you can tell Borders didn't have it, by the time we went back to the shop, it was closed.

When we got home we had forgotten the name of the guy and all we remembered about the book title was something to do with roses!
Whenever we went into an art book store we would try to find this book.  I swear that on more than one occasion we'd find some books by a guy named Jeff Wall.  We'd look at them and say no that's not it.

So fast forward to earlier this week.  Sitting there, listening to the radio.  There was a interview with a guy named Gregory Crewdson.  As they discussed his inspirations, style and photographs.  I quickly did a search.  OH MY GOD, it's him, and he has an exhibition at the Contemporary Center for Photography NOW.  I was so excited!

Today I finally got the chance to go and see his work in real life.  His work is breathe taking, the scale of his images, bring out every detail.  I stood as close as I could, then walked away and looked at his images from a distance.  Amazing.  Words cannot describe. I quickly snuck a photo myself I could not resist (that is above)!

So, if you have  a few free moments head down to CCP in Melbourne and check out this exhibition.  You will not regret it!
